Wellstreams Announces Assistant Director
by Christine Hiester
Remember six-word memoirs? Twenty years ago, with an unassuming start, this movement swept the world and became a powerful and inspiring exercise in distilling a life into six words. I was fascinated with this process, not just for the pithy memoirs I read of others, but the realization that we are always free to rewrite our own, to look back, reflect, and integrate again who we were, who we are now, and who we are becoming.
“Inner critic as enemy, then friend.”
Writing about myself, constructing a bio for a particular occasion, is always an interesting– and often difficult– activity for me. Who am I introducing, and for what audience? Perhaps there’s a bit of the performer in me that comes out when crafting a bio, and the desire to meet expectations can be strong.
“Raised intellectual. Became woo-woo. What happened??”
As I’ve been considering what to share about myself as an introduction, well aware that many in our amazing community are already dear friends, I am filled with gratitude to know that the Spirituality Network is a place where I feel more at home than anywhere else, where the performer self doesn’t need to roll up her sleeves and take charge. All of my history, my iterations of self, have found a place to exhale here, knowing they are welcome.
“Teacher? Learner? One and the same?”
In the past two years of Wellstreams, I have been gifted with the opportunity to assist Amanda in facilitating and supporting the Wellstreams program as faculty. In the past decade of involvement in the Network community, events, and committees, in my work as a spiritual companion, musician, retreat facilitator, and in my day-to-day responses to the movement of Spirit in all of life, I am blessed to be a part of something greater, something that invites me to trust and let go more than anything.
“Buckle up! There’s so much More…”
As we continue this work, I welcome the possibilities, the questions, and the Mystery we get to engage together.
I’d love to connect. What’s your current six-word memoir? Email me anytime: christine@shapingtheriver.com.
