Open Labyrinth Walk: Contemplating the Seven Last Words of Jesus Christ

The labyrinth walk is self-paced, and you may take as much time as you need. You are welcome to come at any time. All walks must be completed by 7:30 PM. Hand-held labyrinths available. “Love offering” welcomed and appreciated.

You are invited to participate in a transformative open labyrinth walk at Park Avenue United Methodist Church in Hamilton, Ohio on Good Friday, April 18, 2025. Step into a peaceful space and reflect deeply on the "Seven Last Words of Jesus Christ." This contemplative experience will guide you through each of His final words, allowing for moments of prayer, meditation, and personal spiritual connection.

Why Walk the Labyrinth? The labyrinth is an ancient tool for meditation and prayer, offering a unique way to deepen our relationship with God. As you journey through the labyrinth, you will engage with themes of love, forgiveness, and hope—powerful aspects of the crucifixion and resurrection story. Pause, reflect, and deepen your spiritual awareness with each step.

About the facilitator: Christy Wesselman is an advanced certified Verditas® trained labyrinth facilitator, a trained spiritual director, trained SoulCollage® and HealthRHYTHMS® facilitator, and an end-of-life doula. Christy is the founder and owner of Listening Heart LLC.

Labyrinth Walk for Peace & Unity

  • Oxford Community Arts Center, Brandt Ballroom (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

We live in a time of change and uncertainty. We sometimes hold a distrust of those different from us. Sometimes it feels like “us and them”. We CAN shift away from that way of thinking and facilitate peace.

The labyrinth can be a tool to bring people together. We bring all our differences into a shared path. We walk our individual paths in life. Others walk their paths. Yet, we walk those paths together in community. In the labyrinth, we walk together in unity.

The labyrinth is different from a maze in that it follows a specified pattern of ancient geometry to enter, and then exits in the reverse order after reaching the center. Walking a labyrinth is usually done in silence and is used as a time for prayer, reflection, or contemplation.

The intention for this labyrinth experience (walk) is for peace and unity. Peace and unity in our individual minds and hearts. Peace and unity in our families, our community, our country and our world.

No experience is necessary. A brief “how-to” will be given prior to the experience. Hand-held labyrinths will be provided for those with mobility concerns.

This is a one-time experience walking a Chartres replica on canvas in the Brant Ballroom.

Cost: $15

A facilitated, balanced, faith perspective on the issues on the Ohio ballot. We’ll also cover voting basics so that your vote counts.

These are divisive times. But do they need to be? As people of faith, we can take the lead in engaging with others when we don’t see eye to eye… and doing so with respect and civility.

While we believe in the separation of church and state, we also believe that elections are matters of faith. We can hold both of these truths.

The Interfaith Association of Central Ohio, The Spiritual Life and learning Center and The Spirituality Network are working together to help us prepare for the upcoming November election and learning how to live with the results.

The Wild Edge of Sorrow Book Study - Zoom

In his 5 gates of grief, psychotherapist Francis Weller explores how we move through the waters of grief and loss in a culture so fundamentally detached from the needs of the soul.

Profoundly moving, beautifully written, this book is a balm for the soul and a necessary salve for moving together through difficult times. Grounded in ritual and connection, The Wild Edge of Sorrow welcomes each grief with care and attention, opening us to the feelings, experiences, and sacred knowledge that connect us to each other and ultimately make us whole.

Join us for this book study/review. Purchase of the book is recommended but not required.

Silent Directed Retreat

  • Our Lady of the Pines Retreat Center (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Come away to a sacred space where all are invited to experience the presence of God through prayer, silence and solitude.  Other than an opening ritual, this retreat offers contemplative spaciousness where the daily rhythm consists of meals together in a silent atmosphere and spiritual direction sessions to share and explore the invitation of Spirit.

Your silent directed retreat offers you:

  • A week of observing silence

  • A daily rhythm that invites slowing down, rest, and deepening prayer

  • One hour each day with an experienced spiritual director to process your experience

Life questions that may lead you to consider this retreat:

  • Are you seeking a deeper connection with yourself and God?

  • Are you seeking a time for ongoing renewal, tending to your heart and spirit?

  • Are you facing an important decision and desiring discernment for the next step?

Comments from past retreatants:

God is constantly descending in the world. This retreat allows me to silence, and through that, increase the presence of the Divine in all things and all people. ~ Diane

I found this retreat to be so much more life-giving and full of grace than other “community” retreats because in the end, I was companioned on the journey to love myself versus being loved by others. I feel loved in ways I know will always be available to me. ~ Robin

What an incredible experience of joy, contentment, growth and deepening connection to the Divine. ~ Betty

Cost includes accommodations, meals and daily spiritual direction. Your private room reservation is $1050*, a $250 non-refundable deposit secures your reservation. Full payment is due by June 1.  (Financial assistance may be available.)

SDAO Mtg: Embracing Authenticity: Navigating Beyond Comfort - Zoom

Have you ever found yourself challenged by unfamiliar territory during a spiritual direction session? Felt caught off guard or questioned your adequacy as a companion? These moments are not uncommon for those who serve as spiritual directors. But where do we turn with our unanswered questions and emotions? Perhaps together, we can uncover insights to assist one another.

In our upcoming July gathering, Mary Anne Evans will graciously share her journey. After over thirteen years as a spiritual director and companioning numerous individuals, she embarked on a reflective pause, contemplating how to embrace authenticity and uniqueness more deeply. A graduate of Wellstreams, Mary Anne now intertwines spiritual direction with mentorship. She is an accomplished retreat and workshop facilitator and the author of several insightful books, including "her memoir" I LV ME: A Spiritual Journey of Healing. Above all, Mary Anne is a profoundly spiritual individual with a passion for exploring life's profound questions, continually seeking, reaching, and growing.

Our discussion will be presented in an interview format, allowing ample time for your questions and participation. We look forward to connecting with you during this enriching experience!

JEDI Series: Setting a Longer Table - Zoom

For those of us who are blessed with plenty, our opportunity is to build a longer table, not a taller fence. That’s easier said than done when we’re engaging with people who are different than us and may have different values and cultures.

Join us, with special guest, Rhonda Burns, associate vice president of diversity, equity and inclusion, Nationwide, as we explore the skills needed to build a truly inclusive culture.

This will be a practical, hands-on workshop that will provide you with ways to be more open and welcoming.

Staying in the Moment

Staying in the Moment

  • First Congregational Church UCC (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Socio-drama is a method by which a group of individuals select and spontaneously enact a specific social situation common to their experience. Socio-drama provides an engaging forum for learning and deepening relationships in a group. It is also effective in clarifying values, developing social skills, solving problems, diagnosing an organization’s core barriers to success, developing and rehearsing action plans or improving personal effectiveness and awareness.

This workshop will be a morning of playful engagement with one another and learning more about the challenges of effective spiritual direction. We will use the role of spiritual director as a focus for consideration of this learning method. Those in training to be spiritual directors and those who wish to be more present should also attend.

Our workshop will be facilitated by Rev. John Cramton, a hospice chaplain with Ohio Health and a certified socio-drama leader. John was trained at Temple University and has experience leading socio-drama workshops in Philadelphia and Columbus.
