The Enneagram and the Instincts Virtual Workshop

to Apr 19

The Enneagram and the Instincts Virtual Workshop

  • Google Calendar ICS

INSTRUCTORS: Connie Frecker and Lisa Bueche

This Workshop is about unlocking the full wisdom of the Enneagram for the greatest opportunity for transformation. Our instinctual nature, while extremely powerful,  is often given little emphasis in many spiritual paths, and our Instincts are often treated as an inherent problem – a distortion to be eliminated.

This is understandable, as this part of our instinctual nature typically has little interest in our spiritual or psychological development. Yet without a clear, viable relationship with this aspect of our souls, it is extremely difficult to maintain an integrated approach to our growth.

The Enneagram addresses this aspect of the Self directly through teachings on the Three Instincts – Self-Preservation, Sexual (Attraction), and Social (Adaptation).  Seminal ideas about the three Instincts go back at least to Gurdjieff’s teachings and have equivalents in other spiritual traditions.  Learning how personality type manifests through one of these instincts can be as exciting as discovering the Enneagram for the first time.

For more information, visit our website hhttps://www.enneagram-ohio.com/the-three-instincts-subtypes-workshop/

Price: $295.00 Standard; $250.00 Early Bird. Deadline is April 4

A limited number of scholarships ($175) are available. Inquire at

Have You Grieved Enough? A Day of Grief and Love in Community

Have You Grieved Enough? A Day of Grief and Love in Community

  • First Congregational Church - Parish Hall (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

The denial of death is a powerful and destructive force in our culture. The topic is one many of us avoid or find uncomfortable. On this day in May, we will come together to break this taboo of silence. Together, in community, we will create a safe-enough container to explore important conversations and practices around death and grief. Together we will bear witness to grief, fear, shame, and guilt, and likely even relief, joy and laughter. It’s complicated. Being present to our full selves can help us bo be present to the precious beauty of life.

This day will include much conversation, simple movement, with options for art, energy work and other practices needed to support our time together.

What to bring?: Favorite poems and songs about death? Yoga mat and one or two blankets if possible.

---------------------------

Marcia Miller, is a lifelong yoga and meditation teacher and has been personally aware of the reality of death since the deaths of her first two children when she was in her twenties. With few around her who knew how to be present to her grief, she reached out to meditation teachers, Stephen and Ondrea Levine, who supported her on the path of “being with” herself and all the craziness and pain that was present for her. Since then, she has supported many other dear family members and friends through death and she has been saying what few others will say, “You and I are going to die, your beloveds are going to die; now how shall we live?” Her work with Roshi Joan Halifax, including the practice of bearing witness, has deepened her work immeasurably. She was a founder of The Death Mavens, three women who fostered many opportunities for talking about death and supporting those who are dying and grieving.  She was a founder and owner of Yoga on High, a regional yoga training center for 21 years. She is a Senior Teacher of UZIT which has a powerful toolkit for those who are grieving or facing their own death. She teaches Reiki and has found Reiki to also have profound effects on those experiencing end of life and grief. She looks forward to continuing the conversations…..

Wellstreams Silent Directed Retreat

Wellstreams Silent Directed Retreat

  • Maria Stein Retreat Center (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

There is a quiet place within you
that knows the way home.

Beneath the noise of daily life, beneath words and demands,
there is a deeper listening—
a holy attentiveness waiting to be received.

This retreat is an invitation to return to that place.
To slow your pace.
To rest in silence.
To listen for the gentle movements of the Sacred
stirring in your life.

Here, in the embrace of stillness and nature,
you are invited to simply be—
held by silence, accompanied by prayer,
and open to the mystery that calls you by name.

Other than an opening ritual, the retreat unfolds in silence. The daily rhythm is intentionally simple: shared meals in a quiet atmosphere, generous time for prayer and reflection, and individual spiritual direction sessions. These one-on-one conversations provide a compassionate space to notice, name, and explore how Spirit may be moving in your life.

The retreat takes place on the beautiful grounds of Maria Stein Retreat Center, a place shaped by prayer, silence, and a long Catholic tradition of listening for God. While rooted in the Christian contemplative tradition, this retreat warmly welcomes people of all spiritual paths, questions, and experiences. No particular beliefs are required—only an openness to listen, reflect, and be present. Nature itself becomes a companion, holding us as we explore how the Sacred is inviting each of us into deeper connection with the Divine Mystery and with our own true selves.

You may be drawn to this retreat if you are asking:

  • Are you longing for a deeper connection with yourself and with God?

  • Are you seeking renewal and a gentle tending of your heart and spirit?

  • Are you standing at a threshold, facing an important decision, and desiring clarity and discernment?

If you feel the invitation to rest, listen, and be held in silence, you are welcome here.
Come nourish your soul.

Comments from past retreatants:

God is constantly descending in the world. This retreat allows me to silence, and through that, increase the presence of the Divine in all things and all people. ~ Diane

I found this retreat to be so much more life-giving and full of grace than other “community” retreats because in the end, I was companioned on the journey to love myself versus being loved by others. I feel loved in ways I know will always be available to me. ~ Robin

What an incredible experience of joy, contentment, growth and deepening connection to the Divine. ~ Betty

We invite you to listen to Katherine Murphy and Diane Lemay as they share their silent directed retreat experience in Episode 13: An Intentional Pause, an Awakening Lives podcast. Click here to be directed to the podcast.

Each retreatant will have a private room with private bath facilities, daily spiritual direction and all meals are included for the cost of $1050.  Payments may be made monthly: $250 deposit, then 3 payments of $266.67, due each May 1, June 1, July 1

*50% refund for cancellations before July 1. After July 1, we are unable to offer refund.

Upon registration, watch for an email confirmation. If you have any questions, concerns or need to be placed on a waiting list, please contact Cathy Davis.

The Maria Stein Retreat Center offers 87 acres of quiet beauty to explore, including wooded areas with paved walking paths, a pond, a grotto, a prayer house, a labyrinth, a chapel, and many comfortable outdoor sitting spaces. Into the Wilderness: A Virtual Preparation for Lent

The season of Lent can be very much a journey. Like any trip we make, we get the most out of it when we prepare for it. This retreat will provide the time and space to reflect on Lenten journeys of the past, as well as the current state of our souls. Equipped with that insight, we can then prepare for the Lenten journey that awaits us.

This two-hour time of virtual retreat will include teaching, personal reflection time, small group sharing, and large group discussion. In particular, we will experientially explore disciplines from the Christian tradition – lectio divina and the examen prayer – to help prepare for the journey.

Two sessions offered:
- Wednesday February 18, 2026 at 7:00pm EST or
- Saturday February 21, 2026 at 10:00am EST.

Offered by Kelly Sollinger DancingOwlStudio.com.

If you want to improve your relationship with a spouse, child, friend, business associate, or family member, this Workshop will be invaluable. We recommend familiarizing yourself with The Wisdom of the Enneagram by Riso and Hudson before the workshop if you are new to the Enneagram.

Hopeful Listening with Steve Garnaas-Holmes

  • First Congregational Church UCC - Parish Hall (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

In a world where people struggle with despair, how do spiritual directors listen with a heart of hope and trust, and offer hope to directees? As we experience political upheaval, the climate crisis, and the fraying of social structures, directees may bring to their sessions a lot of pain, fear, and hopelessness.

Spiritual directors wrestle with these things too! How do we maintain spaciousness of heart, to listen with grace to people who are suffering, struggling, and hurting—with the same anxieties we ourselves face? How do we listen and engage without being either glib or depressing? How do we maintain honest hope, and not just smiley-face optimism?

In this one-day retreat we’ll explore deep listening as a sign of the Reign of God, the practice of hope as a spiritual discipline, the prayerful work of strengthening our spiritual imagination, and how we can hope blessing into being. The goal of this retreat is not new information, but the experience that even in hard times “my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

Steve Garnaas-Holmes is a retired United Methodist pastor, songwriter, composer of church music and author of Unfolding Light, a collection of inspirational and moving poems. He currently lives in Maine with his wife Beth, a spiritual director.

Please consider co-sponsoring this event to help defray the costs of bringing Steve here.

Life after Doom Book Study - Zoom

Dates: November 6, 13, 20, December 4

For the past quarter century, author and activist Brian D. McLaren has been at the intersection of religious faith and contemporary culture. In Life after Doom, he engages with the catastrophic failure of both our religious and political leaders to address the dominant realities of our time: ecological overshoot, economic injustice, and the increasing likelihood of civilizational collapse.

As McLaren notes: “we humans have made a mess of our civilizations and planet, and not enough of us seem to care enough to change deeply enough or quickly enough to save ourselves.

Let’s gather for a four-part book study to explore the questions McLaren poses.

There is hope. Let’s find our way.

An Opportunity to Receive Spiritual Direction for One Year at No Cost

Our Wellstreams|Immersion program is seeking individuals to work with our intern spiritual directors for one year beginning January 2026. This is an ideal opportunity for those who have never been in spiritual direction – or have limited experience with it – and are ready to see if this might be helpful to their spirituality and faith.

Our intern directors are in the final phase of their training and are supervised by experienced supervisors. Anyone interested in participating would need to be willing to commit to monthly sessions with an intern spiritual director beginning in January 2026, ending in February 2027. There is no charge for this service.

You can learn more about spiritual direction on our website or at our information sessions:

  • Thursday, 10/30, 9:30 - 11 a.m.

  • Wednesday, 11/5, 3 - 4:30 p.m.

  • Thursday, 11/13, 6:30 - 8 p.m.

Register for information sessions here.
